what in a name? part 2

Naming a baby is really a very tricky process. Between you and your spouse it’s already hard as it is to decide on a name, add other people’s opinion to the mix and it becomes a lengthy argument.

Few weeks ago, I told my Mom about the name we picked for Princess, and after a hefty conversation about how she thought that it was a weird name and me convincing her that it wasn’t weird because it was a classic name and she tried to coax me into using another name… We finally agreed to keep our choice of given name and she chose the Baptist name.

She chose Maria, because Princess will be born on the Virgin Mary’s month, May.

Even though it’s a very standard Baptist name for a baby girl, I don’t mind one bit because it’s after a very important woman in Catholic Church.

Then she came up with an idea for Princess’ middle name and I quickly rejected the name wholeheartedly. There’s just no way I’m naming my baby with that name.

The name was Meili, of Chinese origin and it means ‘beautiful flower’.

No offense to every Meili out there, but I think that name is very Chinese and just like Amel put it, when it’s combined together with the name I chose, it will totally bring the whole name down.

Diaz and I actually already picked a middle name for her and when I said the name to my Mom, she immediately said that it’s ugly and (again) weird. I was like, “hello?!? You think that this name is ugly but you chose Meili?”. I’m completely up for suggestion, but not when it’s worse than my choice.

So again after a hefty debate, she finally relented. I’m just gonna let the name grown on her, she originally thought that the first name was weird, but she doesn’t have a problem with it now.

No wonder that people tend to keep their babies’ name a secret until birth. Just to avoid people commenting on the names.

For now, I’m just gonna reveal Princess’ initial. Diaz and I are pretty much set with this name, but who knows if we change our mind in the span of three months.

Her initial is M. A. W.

The W obviously stands for Witigna.

I really love her initial because of the mirroring M and W. It feels so royal.
